Classes & Leaderboards

AVAILABLE RACES

  • Maiden
  • All horses start out as "Maidens" meaning they've not won any races. Horses need to win at least one race to "break" their maiden and level up.
  • Allowance
  • Races have a predetermined set of weights as specified in the conditions. Horses need to win 2 Allowance races to advance to the next level.
  • Handicap
  • Each individual horse’s carried weight is determined by the racetrack’s racing secretary or track handicapper. Horses need to win 3 Handicap races to advance to the next level.
  • Non-listed
  • The lowest level of stakes race and lower level of ungraded stakes. Horses need to win 3 Non-listed races to advance to the next level.
  • Listed
  • Second lowest level of stakes race and higher level of ungraded stakes races. Horses need to win 4 Listed races to advance to the next level.
  • Grade 3
  • First step up from the listed level and the lowest level the graded scale. Horses need to win 5 Grade III races to advance to the next level.
  • Grade 2
  • Middle level on the graded scale. Horses need to win 6 Grade II races to advance to the next level.
  • Grade 1
  • Highest level of racing classification in thoroughbred racing. To get to this level of racing, a horse needs to have a total of 24 first place finishes under its belt.

Turnout

RIDER ATTIRE

  • Riders should wear sweatshirts, showshirts or skills - colors of the uniforms that jockeys wear to represent a horse in a race.
  • Usually white leggings or racing pants with riding/racing boots.
  • Helmets mandatory. Helmet covers allowed as accessories.
  • Gloves, horse racing goggles, protective vests and medical armbands are optional.
  • Riding crops allowed up to 40 cm long.
  • Spurs allowed that do not exceed the length of 4 cm (measured from the back of the boot to the end of the spur).

HORSE TACK

  • Any color bridles with all bits except a hackamore.
  • Neck straps and irish or running martingales allowed.
  • Racing breastplates allowed.
  • Any color racing saddles with an overgirth.
  • Racing saddlepad or weight cloth if needed to make minimum weight.
  • Leg protection not mandatory.
